Falling For YA

Hello! I'm Emily. I am a YA Book Blogger at Falling For YA, Third Year Law Student at the University of South Dakota, and lover of all things bookish.

Eve - Anna Carey Eve is a dystopian set in a world where a plague has destroyed the entire population and the King of New America has separated the orphans of the plague into either work camps for boys, or schools for girls. The schools though are not all they are made out to be and Eve must escape before graduation.

Once Eve succeeds in escaping the school she sets out for Califia, an outpost that offers freedom. On the way she meets Caleb a boy *gasp*! And befriends a girl she had misjudged at school.

I really enjoy me a good dystopian so it wasn’t hard for me to get into Eve and keep my interest. The world building was a good start, but I wish there was more information about what caused the plague, what happened during the plague, and how the political system came to be. Eve is a planned trilogy though so hopefully that is further expanded in the next two books.

The relationship between Caleb and Eve is really sweet and I like that it evolves rather slowly. It gave me a chance to really feel what each of the characters feels for
each other, and I didn’t feel like they just had this instant unexplainable connection. The love was very real and the relationship is one that I could see happening in this dystopian world.

Overall I enjoyed the book, but without more world building I wasn’t able to give it that fifth star. I also wished there had been more action, at times the plot lulled and I was left wanting more. I will definitely be picking up the sequel though and hope that Caleb and Eve get their happy ending! I guess I won't know until June of 2012 because that is when Once the sequel is coming out!
